Commercial (or private) health insurance typically covers some home care services for acute needs. Benefits vary by plan. Most plans will cover professional home care services with a patient cost share (though some plans have no coverage for home health care). And while some private insurers do cover "custodial" care, which is care that does not require a licensed professional (eg. meal preparation, bathing assistance, etc...), many private insurers do not. It is highly recommended that you check with your insurer to find out what is covered within your policy, and what the plan requires of you to initiate this care, prior to developing a plan for services.
